Blackberry Service Down Again!

Another day without blackberry service has upset many customers.  Blackberry’s service was down for about 8 hours starting at 6:30pm and lasting until about 2:45am.  This is the second time in less than a week that the service was down.  The last time is was only a few select people and no one on enterprise, but this time Blackberry estimates that 100% of its North American users were down.  There have been some reports that customers in South American were also affected.  This means that they could not receive email, scroll the web, register their device, and other services.

While some probably do not care as much about the service being down, there are many enterprise customers that rely on this service to receive their communications.  8 hours is a long time to not have service, especially since this is the second time in less than a week.  There are a lot of customers that are upset about this and would like a better explanation from RIM, the maker of Blackberry.  Let’s see if RIM can get their service better controlled in the future, so they are not having issues like this.  This is just another example of how we rely too much on technology without having backup plans.  Maybe RIM needs to create a backup plan for their service since it is running on phones for their 32 million customers globally.
