Google Grabs Like.com
Google has acquired the visual shopping company Like.com. For an undisclosed amount, Google has finally taken steps to create a better shopping and search experience by grabbing up the visual search company. Like.com utilizes a visual search engine that allows consumers to search for items based on many different visual variables. This technology has proven to be great in the apparel industry. At this time, Like.com will still be run by the employees of Like along with their other web properties. No one is really sure what is going to happen with Like.com or it’s technology, but we can be sure that Google is going to use it to tighten up some of its technology.

We believe that the visual search technology could be used with Google Product Search along with the possibility of using it within their image search. There are a number of possibilities that Google could do with the technology. It seems that they are trying to clean up their search in order to fight harder with Amazon and Ebay. Another place that the technology could come in would be Google’s ecommerce site search. They already have this in place on many different ecommerce sites, but adding a visual search component would place them in better competition with the other site search vendors. Whatever the plan, we can expect Google to start implementation soon!
